For the third summer in a row, CA Kids Giving Back hosted an ocean-themed camp for the children living at the OC Rescue Mission homeless shelter — and it was an unforgettable week full of joy, creativity, and bonding. With the goal of bringing a bit of summer fun to kids ages 2 to 15, our volunteers from Orange Lutheran and Foothill High School transformed the space into a vibrant underwater adventure. Throughout the week, the kids enjoyed a wide range of ocean-inspired crafts and games such as making colorful sea animal ornaments, enjoying face paint and bubbles, and playing kickball.
Beyond the crafts and games, what truly stood out was the genuine bond formed between the volunteers and the children. Each day offered something new to explore, and the kids and volunteers alike embraced every moment with open hearts and big smiles. Whether it was crafting seacreature inspired balloon, splashing around in the water, or bonding over novels, the camp became a safe space where every child could feel seen and celebrated. The energy and kindness shared throughout the week reflected the core mission of CA Kids Giving Back: to inspire compassion and empower young people to make a difference.
On the final day, we wrapped up the camp with a lively summer BBQ that brought everyone together. Volunteers helped set up delicious food, and the kids spent the afternoon playing various sports and yard games, from soccer and kickball to crafts and bubble filled playground fun. Watching the children run around, cheer each other on, and enjoy a carefree summer afternoon was the perfect way to close out the week. This camp not only provided a fun escape but also created lasting memories and meaningful connections — a true testament to the spirit of giving back.
