A Day of Carnival Fun at the 4th Annual OC Rescue Mission Summer Camp

Our team of 14 teens had the best day throwing a summer carnival for the kids at the Orange County Rescue Mission!
We went all out with balloon animals, face painting, potato sack races, carnival games, including Knock the Clown Down, tickets, prizes, and, as always, plenty of fun treats. Seeing so many cute, smiling faces made all the planning worth it.
But our favorite moment of the day came at the very end.
Two little boys had been on a mission all afternoon to win as many tickets as possible. They raced from game to game and proudly racked up nearly 50 tickets each! When it was finally time to cash them in, they loaded up their bags with toys and candy.
Then they noticed that some of the younger kids hadn’t earned as many tickets. One little boy started crying because he didn’t have enough tickets for the prizes he wanted. Without anyone saying a word, the two boys began emptying the toys and candy they had worked so hard to win into his bag and the bags of other kids who had fewer prizes.
We all just stood there watching.
It was such a simple, sweet reminder of exactly why we do this. We may have come to the OC Rescue Mission that day hoping to give the kids a special summer experience, but those two little boys ended up reminding all of us what giving back really means.
