Drive to Success: A Drive-By Donation Event Supporting WHW

Many people have lost their jobs due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. The unemployment rate in California tripled from the middle of March to middle of April, and in June it was 14.9%. CA Kids Giving Back wants to help, and we know you do too! We think holding a fundraiser and donation drive for Women Helping Women (WHW) is the answer.

WHW is a non-profit that provides the unemployed and the underemployed the skills and resources they need to get and keep a good job. Since 1993, WHW has provided Employment Readiness Services to job seekers at no charge helping families become self-sufficient by increasing household income through employment. 90% of every dollar raised and donated goes directly to client programs. Likes many non-profits, WHW was not able hold its annual fundraising Gala this year, and its WHW Client Service Center finally opened with limited hours after being shut down since March. Now more than EVER, people will need help to find jobs, and WHW needs YOUR help to raise money, supplies and clothing for their job seekers.

The CEO of WHW, Trina Fleming, says “We at WHW have been busy remotely serving our job seekers and their job search efforts through one on one assistance, online webinars, phone calls and daily emails. Support from the community is critical as we look to help job seekers overcome the additional barriers to employment that COVID-19 has caused. Thank you so much CA Kids Giving Back. You are really making a difference!” CA Kids Giving Back has held many events for WHW over the past few years, including lemonade stands and clothing drives, and we are excited to do it again!

Our event "Drive to Success" is a no touch, drive-by, donation event on September 12th from 1-3pm, along with a raffle. Come drive by, and help WHW bring success to their job seekers. We'd love your help!

How can you help?

Donate Toiletry/Hygiene Kits and Supplies: First, CA Kids is collecting personal hygiene kits. WHW needs soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer, and lotion. Supplies can be dropped-off at the event on September 12th, or kids can package them in their own homes and drop off pre-made kits. CA Kids will deliver them to WHW.

Donate Clothing: Second, CA Kids is collecting clothing for WHW’s job-seekers. With all this time at home, we bet you have some clothes you don’t like anymore or that don’t fit. WHW gives professional clothing to people who need clothing for interviews, and sells other clothing in its boutique Deja New to make money to support their programs, which include resume workshops and interviewing training.

Buy Raffle Tickets: Third, WHW needs money to support its programs! We decided to have virtual raffle to raise money. Each ticket costs $5 and lets you have one chance of winning an adult gift basket with awesome items in it, a kid’s gift basket with many prizes, or a COVID-19 basket full of items to protect your health. We will announce the winners on our Instagram @cakidsgivingback and our YouTube OC Kids Giving Back, so make sure you follow us and subscribe! To get a ticket, (1) donate money at the drive-by donation event on September 12th; or (2) purchase tickets through CA Kids Giving Back's Venmo Account: @cakids-givingback and include the number of $5 tickets you want to purchase in the note.

All donors will be listed on all of our social media accounts and website. We already have 6 sponsors willing to match, which means that if you donate $5, WHW receives over $25 per ticket!
